About Swedish Verbs
These following texts contains eight irregular Swedish verb in different tenses.
Since their conjugation does not follow a common pattern the only way to learn them is
by practising. On the other hand, Swedish verbs do not, like English and French verbs,
change form according to person. The verbs we have chosen are all very frequent
and therefore very handy to know.
Reading Exercise
Read the following three texts carefully, check if you know all the words. If you don't
consult the link WORDLIST. Give extra attention to the verbs. Further down you will be
asked to remember the different verb forms.
The Present tense
Bodil tar bussen till kontoret.
Hon bär på sin nya portfölj.
Hon sätter sig på ett säte och ser ut genom fönstret.
Mannen bredvid äter ett äpple och ger även Bodil ett.
Bodil blir mycket glad och säger tack.
The Past tense
Igår tog Kristina bussen till torget.
I handen bar hon en påse med bullar.
Hon satte sig bredvid en liten pojke och åt en bulle.
Pojken såg ledsen ut så hon gav honom en bulle.
Han blev mycket glad och sade tack.
The Perfect tense
Kristina och Bodil har tagit en taxi till stationen.
Kristina har burit sin tunga ryggsäck en kilometer.
Kristina och Bodil har satt sig vid ett bord.
De två vännerna har inte sett varandra på länge.
De har ätit wienerbröd och gett servitrisen dricks.
Bodil och Kristina har blivit serverade av servitrisen många gånger.
Servitrisen har sagt "välkomna!"
